After the Nintendo Switch 2 has been on the market for almost three months, all eyes are slowly turning back to Microsoft and Sony: when will the next console generation appear, what will the Playstation 6 and the Xbox Next have to offer? While a part of the gaming community is eagerly awaiting official answers to these questions, Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida, the game director of Final Fantasy 14, has a very clear opinion on the future of console gaming.

In an interview with the editorial staff of Feed4Gamers, Yoshi-P answered the question whether he could imagine releasing Final Fantasy 14 on a possible Playstation 6 or Xbox Next:
"Of course, there is always the opportunity to bring our games to these platforms, because my goal is to make Final Fantasy 14 accessible to as many players as possible. So if there are more platforms, we will also work on releasing the game on these platforms. The new consoles have much stronger hardware specs, which is why it's easier for us to work with them than before. Therefore, I do not see additional hardware as something negative.
But if I look at the matter from the perspective of the players, I believe that there is no real need for new hardware at the moment. Most are satisfied with Xbox Series X, Playstation 5 or Switch 2. And to be honest: from a player's point of view, hardware is really expensive."
So Yoshi-P is of the opinion that we are well served as a player with the currently available hardware. So Sony and Microsoft can take their time with the next generation of consoles, at least when it comes to the Japanese.
