Nvidia announcement to permanently reduce the RTX 5090's MSRP doesn't seem to have resonated with the general market. Instead, numerous custom models are actually becoming more expensive again.
A few days ago, at least from the official side, there was a happy customer for everyone who wanted to get an Nvidia GPU from the upper price shelf: the manufacturer lowered the recommended retail price for the RTX 5080 to 1,159 euros; for the RTX 5090, it went down to 2,099 euros.
Already at this announcement, however, the "Founders Edition" reference models were listed as unavailable on the official Nvidia website. Even with custom manufacturers, the price development makes few attempts to move into more humane areas - quite the contrary: the current price level is stable at best and continues to be well above the RRP level, with some models of the RTX 5090 even seeing a price increase.
RTX 5090: Prices have been going up since the EIA reduction
Based on our Shero King price comparison, it can be determined that there is not a single custom model available for the RTX 5090 below 2,350 euros (as of August 27, 2025, 12 noon). Compared to the updated RRP, buyers must therefore add a price premium of at least twelve percent if the current Nvidia flagship is to wander through the virtual shopping cart.
Even on closer examination, it turns out that at least the short-term trend is going up again. Popular (because "cheap") variants such as the Zotac Gaming Geforce RTX 5090 Solid OC had reached a new historic low price of 2,300 euros about a week ago, but since then the price curve has been going up again.
