Windows 10 is about to be discontinued—and with it, presumably, the download link for the operating system's installation file. However, you can still easily save the ISO file for later—for experiments or incompatible software.
On October 14, Microsoft will discontinue free support for Windows 10. From then on, there will only be paid security updates - the development of the operating system is slowly running out. At the latest when the extended support period ends, Microsoft will probably remove the installation files for the operating system from the network. If you want to have an ISO file for security, in order to be able to install Windows 10 in the future, you should therefore download it beforehand.
Download with detours
At the moment, this is still relatively easy. Windows 10 is offered for download on Microsoft's website - but only if the website is opened with a browser that does not run on a Windows PC. In order to get the ISO file, you can simply open the download page with your smartphone, download the file and transfer it to your computer.

An alternative option is Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, which is available for download on the same website. With this, users can either create an ISO of the operating system or store it on a data carrier at the same time. If you need Windows 10 again in the future - for example for experiments or software that has problems with Windows 11 - you can then use the old operating system at any time.
For the vast majority of users, however, it should probably be the easiest solution to simply switch to Windows 11 in a timely manner and leave the previous operating system behind. Since the release four years ago, the newer version has finally matured significantly. In addition, PCs with Windows 10 should be used with caution after the end of support. Without security patches, there will be an increasing risk of attacks from the Internet in the future.
