Windows 11: SSD failure

The alleged  SSD problems under Windows 11, which are allegedly caused by the updates KB5063878 and KB5062660 and are said to even damage disks, cannot be reproduced by the controller manufacturer Phison.

After all, are the reports about the supposedly crippled SSDs with memory controllers from Phison under Windows 11 no longer true as hot air? As the Taiwanese manufacturer has now officially announced for its part, the problems allegedly caused by the updates KB5063878 and KB5062660 could not be reproduced in any way, according to Phison.

We have not been able to reproduce the reported problem and so far no partners or customers have reported that the problem affects their drives. - Statement from Phison -

As the company points out, a cumulative total of more than 4,500 test hours went into the investigation of the alleged problem, without it being possible to reproduce the data carrier failures.

As announced on August 18th, Phison became aware of the updates 'KB5063878' and 'KB5062660' for Windows 11, which potentially affect several storage devices, including some that are supported by Phison.

In response, Phison has spent over 4,500 cumulative test hours on the drives reported as potentially affected and conducted more than 2,200 test cycles.

We have not been able to reproduce the reported issue, and so far no partners or customers have reported that the issue has affected their drives.

Phison remains committed to the highest standards of reliability and continues to monitor the situation closely in cooperation with our industry partners. - Statement from Phison -

Phison's statements on the possible problems, which were discussed for the first time in an internationally highly regarded tweet from Asia, point out that the controller manufacturer does not categorically rule out temperature-related problems and related failures.

Although our validation tests have not identified any concerns related to these Windows 11 updates, we have shared industry best practices to support high-performance storage devices.

We also advise users that for longer workloads, such as transferring large files or decompressing large archives, it is ensured that a suitable heat sink or thermal pad is used with the storage device.

This helps to maintain optimal operating temperatures, reduces the likelihood of thermal throttling and ensures sustainable performance. - Statement from Phison -

However, Phiso himself considers his investigations to be completed for the time being after more than 2,200 test cycles. Also within the community from the Shero king, there have been no reports on the two updates KB5063878 and KB5062660, which would have pointed to increased failures.
