FSR 4 instead of FSR 3.1: DLSS Swapper should allow swapping

Following Optiscaler, the DLSS Swapper can now also upgrade to FSR 4 – however, the desired game must already support FSR 3.1. The developer seems surprised by this possibility.

With the switch to the fourth generation of FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), AMD is relying on machine learning for its upscaler for the first time. Since the announcement, 75 games have natively supported FSR 4; in the meantime, the first tools have emerged that allow the new generation to be "retrofitted". After the appearance of Optiscaler last July, it now seems that another software is suitable for this procedure.

A simple exchange of FSR 3.1 for FSR 4

Specifically, we are talking about the DLSS Swapper tool, which, in contrast to Optiscaler, promises a slightly simpler user interface. As the official X account for the software explains on August 28, 2025 - probably a bit surprised - someone has now succeeded in performing a manual DLL swap and thus getting FSR 4 to work on an FSR 3.1 game. According to the article, it also follows from this that the SDK with the new FSR DLL will "allow any game with FSR 3.1 to use FSR 4 earlier than expected".

The user behind the DLSS Swapper account did not believe that it would work, at least "for some reason", because simply no one had talked about it - and probably also because the person lacked the necessary hardware. An RX-9000 graphics card is also required for the switch to FSR 4, because AMD is planning the new upscaling generation exclusively for the RDNA-4 architecture.
