As the Kepler L2, known for its well-founded and mostly accurate information in the past, reported in the NeoGAF forum, Sony is said to have scheduled the release of its next-gen game console, the Playstation 6, for the year 2027. That's "the plan," the insider says in his posting.

In all likelihood, the Playstation 6 will probably rely on a custom SoC designed by AMD again, which, according to current rumors, will be based on Zen 6 ("Morpheus") and UDNA ("GFX13XX") - formerly traded as an RDNA-5 architecture - and may also come up with the 3D V cache, which is advantageous for games, for the first time. The new neural arrays and Radiance cores, which according to Kepler L2 correspond to RTX neural shaders and tensor cores, should also be on board, according to the insider.

As Kepler L2 reports, the design of the new custom SoC, whose graphics unit is to be based on a modification ("fork") of the upcoming UDNA architecture - formerly RDNA 5 - is already completed and is now in the so-called "pre-Si validation", i.e. a "pre-silicon validation". The new architecture, developed as "GFX13", is also intended to be the basis of the next generation of Radeon graphics cards and, with regard to its maximum computing power, to be broader than RDNA 4.

The so-called A0 tapeout, a crucial production step that will produce the first version of the custom SoC, is already planned for the end of this year, according to Kepler L2. In this context, the insider also mentioned that the upcoming Zen-6 architecture ("Morpheus") has also been designed in the meantime.

As Kepler L2 also noted, Sony usually leaves about two years between the A0 tapeout and the release of the game console, which could indicate a possible presentation of the Playstation 6 at the end of 2027. In addition, the option of 3D V-Cache in the game console will be discussed again. All this is an absolute dream of the future and it will be a long time before we have really waterproof information about the PS6 and its technology here.
