Almost three years after announcing its in-home urine analysis lab for preventative health monitoring, Withings U-Scan is now launching on the market. Following more than seven years of research and development, U-Scan enables the regular, automatic analysis of urine samples directly in the bathroom.

The system combines a smart reader with interchangeable test cartridges that cover different health areas for chemical sensors with optical measurement technology and artificial intelligence in a device that is hooked into the toilet.

U-Scan automatically collects urine samples using a sensitive heat sensor. A small amount of urine is taken and analyzed by the device using miniaturized biochemical sensors integrated in the replaceable cartridge. According to the manufacturer, the results are processed on the device within a few minutes and transmitted to the Withings app via WLAN. There users can view their values on hydration, nutritional balance, calcium trends and other parameters.

Each cartridge lasts for up to three months of use, depending on the test frequency, and can be replaced. For regular deep cleaning, U-Scan is supplied with a suitable station that fully charges the reader within three hours and cleans it at the same time.

Withings U-Scan Review

At the start, two variants are available: U-Scan Nutrio is intended to help the user to better understand nutrition and metabolism by measuring important biomarkers such as pH, hydration, ketones and vitamin C. U-Scan Calci, on the other hand, should help to proactively monitor kidney health by recording values such as calcium, pH and urine concentration and thus making risk factors for kidney stones visible. The results are automatically synchronized with the Withings app and displayed there with the Withings+ subscription in charts and trends that are understandable even for ordinary users. In this way, in particular, you also get an overview of your own health data over time.

By replacing punctual laboratory tests with regular measurements, U-Scan should provide a much more detailed picture of the individual metabolic processes, according to Withings.

U-Scan Nutrio is available from today on withings.com available for 349,95 Euro (RRP). U-Scan Calci will follow simultaneously in limited quantities.

Withings also offers subscription models for U-Scan.
