Amid the memory shortage, the popularity of older AM4 processors is increasing. The Ryzen 7 5800X, in particular, is in high demand. In some cases, it's even the most sought-after model on Amazon.
The current storage crisis has an impact on the entire PC market. There is currently a high demand for DDR5 memory in particular, and prices have also risen significantly in recent months. Many end customers are therefore postponing a planned PC upgrade - or they are looking for alternatives. This in turn benefits AMD's old AM4 line - and apparently significantly. At least in England, with the Ryzen 7 5800X, a corresponding processor is even the most popular model on Amazon at the moment.

The situation is similar in this country as well. The first place of the most popular processors on Amazon is still held by the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, but the Ryzen 7 5800X follows immediately after that. In the Shero King price comparison, i.e. for more experienced customers, the model also comes into the top 10. There, the Ryzen 7 5800X currently occupies 5th place, directly followed by the Ryzen 7 5700X as a boxed and tray model.
The market development is therefore clear: due to the storage crisis, customers are currently preferring to use ancient processors that were launched on the market more than five years ago. Because this way you can avoid the immensely high DDR5 memory prices and switch to cheaper DDR4 modules. However, the RAM crisis has also had an impact there for a long time, and the situation is only likely to get worse here. Because the old DDR4 production lines are actually about to run out. If the memory manufacturers stick to their plans, the socket AM4 as a cheap alternative to the memory should therefore soon be in trouble.

Even then, however, the storage crisis of the now outdated platform should still help. Because existing customers with AM4 system can still upgrade to a Ryzen 5000 processor and thus delay a major replacement. Only the change to a model with X3D cache is not possible without switching to the used market. Because, unfortunately, AMD has stopped the production of the corresponding processors. And due to the necessary production line, it is not to be assumed that a new edition will follow here. For PC gamers, however, it would be more desirable anyway if the RAM prices returned to normal somewhat instead. Because even if the AM4 CPUs are a cheap alternative, most customers would probably prefer to buy a current system, provided it is affordable.
