As a consequence of the memory crisis, Gigabyte has introduced four more motherboards with AM4 sockets, based on existing models. Some of the differences are minor, while others feature more significant redesigns.

For end customers, the current storage crisis is particularly noticeable in the form of massive price increases for DDR5 kits. For customers willing to upgrade, the temptation is therefore great to resort to a system with DDR4 again. The corresponding market movement is now evident not only among dealers, but also among motherboard manufacturers: Gigabyte introduced four "new" motherboards with the AM4 socket at the turn of the year in order to meet the newly fueled demand.

New production, old products

However, the four boards presented are not really new, instead they are partly slightly improved, new revisions. So the development department made only limited efforts to Gigabyte. Instead, the product launch should mean that the production of the corresponding models will be resumed. Specifically, we are talking about the four AM4 motherboards A520I AC 1.5, A520M H ARGB, B550M H ARGB and B550I Aorus Pro AX. 1.4.

The A520I AC and B550I Aorus Pro AX boards were previously offered with lower version numbers. The A520M H ARGB and the B550M H ARGB, on the other hand, were available without ARGB in the name. But there are at least some major changes behind this. While the two ITX motherboards only receive gigabytes of the new Wifi connection called EZ-Plug, the layout has changed with the new ARGB additions. Both motherboards were not only supplemented by an ARGB connector, but also shortened by a PCI-E slot. Both rely on an almost identical, but restructured layout compared to the previous generation. The connections installed so far have otherwise been largely retained.

So, hardly anything changes in the previous product structure due to the new presentation of the four Gigabyte motherboards. However, it confirms that the AM4 socket is gaining in popularity and thus in importance again due to the storage crisis. However, it remains to be seen how long this trend will last and whether other manufacturers will also jump up. A relaxation in the demand for DDR5 RAM could stall it as well as an undersupply of DDR4 memory - and a production stop is actually planned here.
