Asus has revealed all the details about the ROG Strix XG27JCG 5K monitor: The price, release date, and high GPU requirements are now confirmed.
A little over a month ago, Asus introduced the ROG Strix XG27JCG, which already attracted attention with an unusual requirement at the time of release. If you want to use the native 5K resolution at full refresh rate, you absolutely need a modern graphics card.
In a new press release, Asus now provides not only the specific requirements, but also the price and release of the ROG Strix XG27JCG.
Asus ROG Strix XG27JCG 5K gaming with bandwidth hurdle
The Asus ROG Strix XG27JCG, as a 27-incher, is supposed to "open a new chapter in high-end gaming" with its 5K resolution of 5,120 × 2,880 pixels (218 ppi) and 180 Hz refresh rate. This results in a technical hurdle: in order to display 5K content with 180 Hz, 10-bit color depth and 4:4:4 color subsampling, around 88 Gbit/s of bandwidth is required.
- The problem lies in the display interfaces of the previous graphics cards. The DisplayPort 1.4 installed in the RTX-40 series supports a maximum of 32.4 Gbit/s, the HDMI 2.1 port of the Ada-Lovelace generation reaches 48 Gbit/s.
- For the original unveiling, Videocardz made the assumption that it could theoretically still be possible to use the full monitor performance, taking into account new DSC generations.
- However, this is only guaranteed from the RTX 50 or RX 7000 onwards, which can access 80 Gbit / s with DisplayPort 2.1 and receive full support with DSC support.
The Asus ROG Strix XG27JCG is now available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland at a recommended retail price of 799.90 Euro/Swiss franc including VAT in online retail and the in-house webshop. At the time of writing, it is listed at 749.90.
